Motivate blends eight oils into one 5ml bottle — Peppermint, Clementine, Coriander, Basil, Yuzu, Melissa, Rosemary and Vanilla. Yuzu and Melissa are the two least familiar names on the label: Yuzu is an East Asian citrus fruit prized in Japanese cooking for its tart, complex peel, while Melissa, also called lemon balm, is one of the more costly oils in the range, since it takes a large weight of leaf to yield a small amount of oil.
The aroma is fresh, clean and minty — Peppermint leads, with Clementine and Yuzu adding a citrus brightness, and Coriander, Basil and Rosemary building a herbaceous middle. Coriander seed smells warmer and spicier than fresh coriander leaf, closer to a citrus-tinged spice than the herb itself.
It's a dropper bottle, so it suits a diffuser or a hand-blended mix — a couple of drops on their own, or paired with Peppermint for more mint. Because Clementine and Yuzu are both cold-pressed citrus peel oils, keep treated skin out of direct sun or UV for twelve hours afterwards, the same rule that applies to any citrus-containing blend.
