Console blends eight oils into one 5ml bottle — Frankincense, Patchouli, Ylang Ylang, Labdanum, Amyris, Sandalwood, Rose and Osmanthus. Labdanum and Osmanthus are the two least familiar names on the label: Labdanum is a resin from the Cistus rockrose shrub, historically collected by combing it from the coats of goats that had grazed among the bushes; Osmanthus is a small, apricot-scented flower grown in China, where it's also used to scent tea and wine.

The aroma is sweet, musky and floral — Rose and Ylang Ylang lead, with Frankincense and Sandalwood settling underneath as a resinous, woody base, and Labdanum adding an amber-like depth. It's a heavier, more resinous blend than most of the florals in the range, closer to an incense than a bouquet.

It's a dropper bottle, so it suits a diffuser or a hand-blended mix as much as using it neat. A couple of drops mixed into Epsom salts is one way to use the bottle up in an evening bath, the same as with any of the heavier, more resinous blends in the range.

Why people choose it

  • A sweet, musky, floral blend of eight oils, led by Frankincense, Patchouli and Ylang Ylang
  • Rounded out with Labdanum, Amyris, Sandalwood, Rose and Osmanthus
  • Osmanthus is a rare, apricot-scented flower from China, also used to scent tea and wine
  • Labdanum is a resin historically combed from the coats of grazing goats
  • A dropper bottle that suits a diffuser, a hand-blended mix or an evening bath with Epsom salts

How it smells

Sweet, musky and floral — Rose and Ylang Ylang to the front, Frankincense and Sandalwood underneath as a resinous, woody base, with Labdanum adding an amber-like depth.

How to use it

In a diffuser
Add three to four drops to a diffuser, on its own or paired with Frankincense for more resin.
On skin
Apply one to two drops to the area of your choice, diluted with a carrier oil to minimise any skin sensitivity.
Dilution
Dilute with a carrier oil for topical use — most people start with one drop of Console to two or three drops of fractionated coconut oil.
Worth knowing
It's a heavier, more resinous blend, so it suits a diffuser running in a larger room without becoming too much.

Common questions

What does Console actually smell like?

Sweet, musky and floral — Rose and Ylang Ylang lead, with Frankincense and Sandalwood underneath as a resinous base and Labdanum adding an amber-like depth.

What's in the bottle?

Eight oils — Frankincense, Patchouli, Ylang Ylang, Labdanum, Amyris, Sandalwood, Rose and Osmanthus.

What's Osmanthus?

A small, apricot-scented flower grown in China, used there to flavour tea and wine as well as in perfumery. It takes several tonnes of blossom to produce a single kilo of absolute, which makes it one of the rarer florals in any blend.

What does it blend well with?

Frankincense reinforces the resinous base, since it's already in the bottle. A drop of Rose alongside it pushes the aroma further toward floral.

How far does a 5ml bottle go?

At three to four drops a session, one bottle lasts a good few weeks of regular diffusing.
