Black Spruce is steam distilled from the needles and branches of trees in the Canadian boreal forest, using material left over once the timber itself has been harvested. Little of the tree goes to waste, and what would otherwise be offcuts becomes the source of the oil.
The aroma is fresh and green with a rounded, balsamic woodiness, closer to walking through a conifer forest after rain than a single sharp note of pine. It's a fuller, softer smell than some of the brighter forest oils, with more depth underneath.
