Essential Oils for Fitness, Recovery and Movement

Your pre- and post-workout routine matters just as much as the workout itself. Many essential oil users find they add a sensory boost to warming up, cooling down, and everything in between.

Setting the Mood Before You Move

Diffusing or inhaling oils straight from the bottle is a simple ritual many enjoy before exercise. Peppermint has a crisp, invigorating aroma. Wild Orange offers a bright, uplifting citrus scent. Citrus Bliss blends citrus oils for an aromatic pick-me-up while getting changed or driving to the gym.

Topical Use as Part of a Cool-Down Routine

Essential oils are highly concentrated and should always be diluted in a carrier oil (Fractionated Coconut Oil, sweet almond, or jojoba) before applying to skin — a general adult guideline is 2–4 drops per teaspoon (5ml) of carrier. Always patch-test on a small area first and wait 24 hours before wider use.

Peppermint, diluted, is popular for its naturally cooling sensation post-workout. Deep Blue, a blend of oils including Wintergreen, Camphor and Peppermint, is one many people massage into tired muscles as part of their wind-down. These oils are not intended to treat, diagnose, or medically address soreness, inflammation, or injury — think of them as a pleasant addition to a cool-down ritual, not a substitute for proper recovery.

Recovery Habits That Actually Matter

No oil replaces the fundamentals: stretching, hydration, rest, and good nutrition. If you're dealing with a persistent ache or suspected injury, see a doctor or physiotherapist — oils are a wellness ritual, not a medical treatment.
