Frankincense is the resin oil, and it smells like it — warm, faintly sweet, with a dry woody edge that lingers long after lighter oils have faded. It is the most expensive bottle most people buy, and usually the one they are most careful with.

It works as a base note. On its own it is quiet and slightly austere; underneath citrus or florals it adds weight and stops a blend smelling thin. A drop of Frankincense under Lavender is one of the simplest ways to make an evening diffuser blend feel more considered.
